In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Chad Hall, Founder & CEO of remodelmate.

Without further ado…

What do you do?

I’m the founder and CEO of Washington, DC-based remodelmate.

What problem does your product/service solve?
At our core, we’re a collaboration company.

When we started the company our thesis was: Doing a home or condo renovation sucks because homeowners and contractors don’t know how to effectively work together. So, if we fix that problem, we could make a historically unpleasant experience delightful.

Through remodelmate, which is an online marketplace that allows homeowners and contractors to buy and sell renovation services, consumers get access to fair and transparent pricing and project timelines, while contractors get hired for jobs without having to search for them in the marketplace.

We earn a fixed percentage of each job from the contractors; and for an optional, added fee we provide concierge-like project management to the homeowners. Our ultimate goal is to re-establish trust and set higher standards in the infamously unpredictable remodeling industry.

What are you most excited about right now?

We’ll soon be launching “remodelmate 2.0.” The website and current form functionality is getting a complete makeover. As part of the launch, we’ll also be introducing a product that adds an extra layer of accountability and puts users in better control of their project’s timeline.

What’s next for you?

Raising our first round is one of our top priorities at the moment. We’re currently looking for for $420,000 in pre-seed funding, of which we have nearly a third committed. After that, we plan on adding a few more people to our operations team and eventually automating our online service. And after that: expansion.

What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?

I was homeless twice before the age of 18, so I’m very passionate about affordable housing solutions and innovative approaches to end homelessness. One day, when remodelmate is a huge success, I want to explore ways to use our community impact to help solve these two hugely important issues.
