In the spirit of our Independence Day, and the veterans who make our freedom possible, the topic of last week’s Geek Estate Mastermind Newsletter #36 focused on Housing for Veterans and the GI Bill. Greg Fischer, a veteran himself who is clearly more qualified on the topic than I, handled editorial. To best serve veterans who need rentals; landlords, property managers, and real estate brokers need to stay up to date on the benefits. Why?
Leaving the burden of explanation to veterans adds unneeded stress for the applicant while preventing the landlord from engaging in the qualification process smartly. More importantly, showing interest in housing veterans contributes to the well being of our communities and aids in the fight to prevent homelessness among our service members.
For my portion of the newsletter, I touched on driverless cars. An excerpt:
Self Driving Cars and the Future of Cities: For those interested in urban planning and the future of cities, there’s an article in the Wall Street Journal you should read: How Driverless Cars Are Going to Change Cities. The driverless car promises to reshape the urban landscape as we know it. That’s creating excitement—and fear—among city planners. It should also be an exciting shift for real estate professionals, as it provides a gigantic opportunity to build trust by guiding clients through the transition.
A few of the curated articles referenced:
Real Estate Development Company Launches PropTech Accelerator in Propmodo. JLL and Australian developer Lendlease partnered to launch Propell Asia, a Singapore-based startup accelerator designed to foster innovative technologies in the Asia Pacific property sector. More details here.
WeWork Debuts WeMRKT. While conceptually I completely understand the move into retail, I have to think WeWork is getting incredibly big for its own britches. Can they really maintain focus on all the businesses they are running?
Airbnb’s Newest Weapon Against Regulation: The Real Estate Industry in Wired. I have to give Airbnb credit: opting-in Century 21 to their ecosystem with a revenue share is a great strategic move to help them on the regulation front.
As a reminder, the purpose of the Geek Estate Mastermind is two fold:
- Curate the world’s most innovative and diverse community of real estate creatives, doers, and pioneers.
- Make our members wildly successful in their careers building real estate companies.
