In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Steven Wynands from Peer Reputation. Steven is another recent addition to the Geek Estate Mastermind.

What do you do?
I am the Co-founder and CEO of Peer Reputation. We’ve created something that will finally raise the bar of the real estate industry.
What problem does your product/service solve?
It’s too easy to become a real estate agent. It’s much tougher to be a good one. We’ve developed the only reliable way to verify agent quality: anonymous post-settlement reviews between cooperating agents (i.e. Peer Reputation).
This is groundbreaking because consumer reviews only begin to scratch the surface and can be easily gamed (as you’ve mentioned). Checking Zillow reviews is like asking your friend which doctor they go to.
Checking Peer Reputation is like asking your doctor who he would go to for surgery.
What are you most excited about right now?
Industry response has been overwhelming! We have over 5,600 registered users and 80,000 feedback responses (156% CMGR over 5 months and 19% CMGR over 9 months, respectively). Our email analytics show an open rate of 74% and a click rate of 27%! I’m excited to see this fast adoption and willingness of agents to participate. We clearly have the momentum, willingness, and capability to improve the industry, and we’ve only just begun. There are 380+ metro areas in the US. We are only in 10 of them and have data ready to launch in 44 more areas.
What’s next for you?
We have so many exciting plans. While we continue to expand, we’re building out features that help good agents earn more business and ratify more contracts. We need to get the negative ratings into the hands of brokers so they can provide the necessary training to their agents. We’ve also been asked to develop recruitment and retention features for brokers.
What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?
I believe the children are our future.
Children hold the greatest potential in making a positive difference in our world because they possess the most unadulterated optimism. We need to give them the tools and support to do things better than we did. I’ve been mentoring youth since I was in high school. Nowadays that energy is focused on my 3 and 5 year olds.
