In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Daniel O’Toole from TowerHouse. He and I had a great discussion in San Francisco during Inman, and he recently joined the Geek Estate Mastermind. He’s working on a product that has traces of “history of a home”, an opportunity and concept I’ve been thinking about for a decade and writing about since 2012. And an opportunity I’m still bullish will lead to a billion dollar outcome for someone.
Without further ado…
What do you do?
I am the Founder & CEO of TowerHouse, Inc., responsible for executing the company’s business plan and strategic direction. We’re focused on transforming residential real estate by digitalizing the homeowner.
Our product, HomeEgg, is a digital home management platform that empowers homeowners to manage the financial performance of their home and engage the real estate ecosystem on their terms.
What problem does your product/service solve?
Home equals 42% of total wealth for the average US homeowner. Yet, home financial data is scattered everywhere leaving homeowners with no visibility and control over how their home is performing as a financial asset. HomeEgg is solving this. We centralize home financial information in an integrated data model and provide “irresistible and addicting” home financial performance metrics in a fun and easy to use solution. We then help the customer use their insights to build wealth, find cost savings, prevent value seepage and create leverage across the real estate ecosystem.
What are you most excited about right now?
Proptech is a white-hot and, if it is anything like commercial and corporate real estate, we’re just getting started. I see that the market is hyper-focused on informing and automating the transaction (i.e., broker, agents, lenders, title and escrow etc). This is all very important work and we give credit to all the great companies making these investments. But I’m most excited about our work to bring the homeowner into the digital mix and redefine real estate ecosystem linkages. That’s where we see the big prize for the industry and I’m happy we’re leading the effort to close this gap.
What’s next for you?
I’m laser – focused on scaling the HomeEgg platform and getting it into the hands of every US homeowner.
What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?
I’ve always been a big fan of the underdog both professionally and personally. I find great joy and encouragement in empowering the disadvantaged; economically and socially. I’m particularly passionate about creating opportunities for foster and adopted children and strengthening homeownership opportunities for veteran and single parents.
